Getting Started With Your Emergency Planning: Types of Survival Kits to Consider

There are all kinds of disaster recovery and emergency planning and survival kits.  If you’re just starting putting your emergency plans in place, congratulations.  You don’t need to fret too much in the beginning about the types of kits you need or whether some supplies overlap between one bag and the other.

The important thing is just to get started.  Buy an all-in-one survival kit, or at least start out with some micro-sized survival kits (especially my favorite micro kit) for your coat or backpack pocket so that you know you’ve got something.  By all means, if you’re going on any kind of summer hiking or outdoors trip, you’ll need a basic kit of some sort – even if you’re “only” 3 miles away from your car.  First-aid is a must.

This is a good video (below) for getting started thinking about what you might eventually need, but don’t let all the options confuse you in the beginning.  Just buy the basics for each family member at this point.

If you’re ready to purchase some emergency planning supplies, or even just camping gear for summer vacation, please do check out some of my affiliate links (eg., through the backpacks link above) and purchase your gear from Amazon (through me) if you can. I get a very small return (a dollar or so), and it doesn’t cost you anything additional — but it helps me keep the site up and continue to improve it.  Thanks!
